Tips on studying for the 11+

I know this exam is one of the exams you have to work your butt off in order to succeed. And although I'm not proud of it, I studied for it in under two months and passed into an amazing school.

Tip 1 : Get started
I know I said I did it last minute (which left me with the name lastminute.com ) but it was much harder to fit in everything I had to do along with studying. Doing this last minute meant I had to do 4 papers every single day , and obviously lazy me stressed out because I couldn't do it. So I recommend starting to study at least 10 months before the exams in September to give your enough time.

Tip 2:  Tuition
Getting your dream secondary school comes with a price. But it's all worth it . I went to 3 tuitions of which I'm so grateful my parents sent me to. These really helped me achieve my very best in the exams. I can only give you one website, because the other two tuitions don't have websites Click here to find the website  to this awesome tuition. If you can't afford a tuition gang up with your friends during lunch with some books and study together. This really helps you and your friends understand key topics like Algebra and Statistics.

Tip 3: Papers
There are only so many question types they can put in the exam so the only (and best) way to study is to do papers in test conditions by keeping the room silent and taking a 15 minute break between tests. It also boots your confidence so that when it comes exam time, your less nervous during the tests.

Tip 4: Don't feel bad
When I did the exam , I was under so much pressure. One of the smartest girls in my class was doing the exam and I knew she would pass and I would fail. But it ended up the other way round , due to my best friend always believing in me. I was also getting mentally hurt by this one girl , who would make fun that I was going to a grammar school and she wasn't . This really put me down and it still angers me when people talk about how bad these schools are but they really aren't. Believe that you can do it and it WILL happen, trust me.

Tip 5: Don't Worry
These exams are a real pain, and you can feel awful if you don't get a place at your dream school. But if you did your best there's nothing to worry about. I do feel like the exams are a bit of a push to get you the best score, but life has challenges, and this exam is definitely one of them.

Thank you for reading !
